The second Annual Kites for a Cure took place on Sunday August 2nd. Once again, over 1400 community members turned out to heighten the community’s awareness in the fight against lung cancer. “Kites for a Cure 2009” had a unique and simple concept- a fun, uplifting afternoon benefiting Elliot’s Legacy- Uniting Against Lung Cancer.
The morning began with an invigorating start. Over seventy women exercised, while enjoying the beautiful view of the seashore. The women were energized by a stimulating array of exercise classes. There was aerial conditioning with Franci, yoga with Gem, and Zumba with Michal, for all those who attended to savor.
The breathtaking afternoon provided many activities for all to enjoy. There were rides, face painting, a delicious barbeque, a children’s Chinese Auction, as well as a silent sports memorabilia auction, but by far the most fun was the kite flying. After the success of last year’s event, many children looked forward to attend all summer. Children colored and designed hundreds of kites delivering messages to loved ones. As the skies cleared, the weather proved to be both pleasurable and therapeutic as the kites flew in the fresh air creating an exquisite site!
